Why Mauritius for a Wellness & Spa trip
Mauritius has a strong spa culture shaped by its Indian heritage, and many resorts offer Ayurvedic consultations, yoga and meditation alongside Western therapies. Combine spa days with hikes in Black River Gorges National Park, an early climb up Le Morne Brabant and long swims in calm, reef-protected lagoons. The quieter south and southwest coasts, where sugarcane fields run down to the sea, suit a restorative stay better than the busier north.
Mauritius is a volcanic island in the Indian Ocean ringed by coral reefs, lagoons and white beaches, with mountains, sugarcane fields and rainforest inland. Its luxury resorts combine French, Indian and Creole influences in cuisine and hospitality, and the island offers more than beach time: championship golf, hiking, kitesurfing and a well-developed spa culture.
When to go: May to December brings cooler, drier weather, with September to November particularly pleasant. January to March is hot and humid with a risk of cyclones, while the east coast is breezier during the winter trade winds.
