How much is the Bali tourist levy and who pays?

Love Bali, the Bali Provincial Government's official levy site, states that foreign tourists are subject to Rp 150,000 per person, and that it applies to every international tourist who travels to Bali and does tourist activities — including cruise passengers.

It is paid only one time while traveling in Bali, before you leave Indonesia.

How do I pay the Bali levy?

  • Online before you fly on the official site lovebali.baliprov.go.id or the official Love Bali app — the recommended option.
  • On arrival at the payment counters at Bali's airport and ports.
  • During your trip through registered collection points such as hotels, travel agents and attractions.

Payment is cashless: credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB), bank transfer, virtual account, UnionPay and QRIS. Your proof is a levy voucher with a QR code, emailed to the address you enter — keep it on your phone.

Who is exempt from the Bali levy?

The official FAQ lists exemptions for holders of diplomatic and official visas, transport crew, holders of KITAS or KITAP stay permits, and holders of family-unification, student, Golden and certain other visas. Golden visa and other-visa holders must apply for the exemption through the Love Bali system; the others show their card to the officer.

The FAQ does not list an age exemption, so plan to pay for children too.

Is Christmas and New Year a good time for a Bali luxury stay?

December to February falls in Bali's wetter season, typically with sunny mornings and tropical afternoon showers — yet the year-end holidays are among the island's busiest and priciest weeks. Resorts usually publish festive gala dinners and minimum stays, so book early. For the driest weather, the island's classic season runs from around April to October.

Where to stay in Bali for a luxury trip

  • Uluwatu and Bukit Peninsula — clifftop resorts above the Indian Ocean and famous sunsets.
  • Ubud — jungle-valley retreats, rice terraces and wellness.
  • Nusa Dua — calm beaches and large five-star resorts, good for families.
  • Seminyak and Canggu — beach clubs, dining and nightlife.

A popular split is 3 nights Ubud + 4 nights on the coast.
